Beautiful fiery red new growth matures to deep green. A prolific producer of broad, drooping white flower clusters. An excellent shrub for foundation planting or landscape groups. Evergreen. Care Information Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Provide well drained soil, rich in organic matter. Feed with an acid fertilizer after bloom. Keep roots cool with a thick layer of mulch. Pruning time: spring after flowering. Design Ideas This Pieris is a bold colored plant for partially shaded gardens. It thrives in natural woodland settings. An excellent background plant with conifers in Japanese tea gardens. A great solution for the damp, acidic soil conditions in the Pacific Northwest. Bright foliage color and charming flowers makes it a suitable accent plant for condo and town-house patios, city gardens and courtyards. Valuable foundation plant on north and eastern exposures. Once matured, it can be used as a side-yard privacy screen. History This is a genus of Ericaceous flowering plants from Asia and North America, classified in 1834 by David Don, 1799-1841. He named the genus after the Pierides or nine muses of mythology The parent species is P. japonica, introduced in 1784 as Andromeda japonica. The plant was first collected and described by noted physician Carl Thunberg while working for the Dutch East India Company in Japan. Plants are native to eastern China and Taiwan as well. It was introduced under P. japonica to the west in England by 1870 as the most cold hardy of all species. This and many of the P. japonica varieties likely include P. formosa for color and P. floribunda in their family tree.

Braided Money Tree - Bonsai Plant in Cobalt Blue Pot
USD 29.98

The legend began in Taiwan, with an old, poor, and hard-working farmer who lived in a small valley and was very superstitious. He found a small, unusual plant one day when he went out to the field, and never having seen anything like it before, thought to dig it up and take it home with him. Little did he know how resilient and hard to uproot the tree was. He took a lesson from the tree, deciding to be stubborn, hard working and never give up on the things he strove to work for, and turned into a wealthy entrepreneur. Often referred to in Asian cultures as the "Bringer of Good Fortune" - especially when given as a gift - our 5-stemed, Braided Money Tree makes the perfect addition to any home or office. It's a great way to say Congratulations, Good Luck or Happy Chinese New Year! Appropriate for plant-caring novices and experts alike, this hardy variety of bonsai is not only good looking, but it's also extremely easy to take care of; tolerant of low light conditions and even dryness, it virtually takes care of itself. Tastefully accented in a specially designed, 5 1/2" cobalt blue square pot, the money tree stands approximately 12-13" tall.
