Japanese Zelkova: Two Year Old Seedling

Noted for its graceful shape, clean foliage, attractive bark and resistance to Dutch elm disease! 30-36 inch tall Japanese zelkova very light to no branching. Zelkova serrata Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soils in full sun. Established trees tolerate some drought. Prefers rich, moist loams. Generally tolerant of urban conditions. Japanese zelkova is a medium to large deciduous tree, typically growing to 50-80' tall with a spreading, generally upward-branching, vase-shaped crown. It is native to Japan, Taiwan and eastern China. It is noted for its graceful shape, clean foliage, attractive bark and resistance to Dutch elm disease. Zelkova has in fact been promoted in recent years as a substitute for American elm (Ulmus americana) because of its resistance to Dutch elm disease. Insignificant small green flowers appear in spring as the foliage emerges. Flowers give way to small, non-showy, ovate, wingless drupes that ripen in autumn. Oblong-elliptic medium green leaves (to 3" long) with coarse, ciliate marginal teeth and acuminate tips. Fall color is variable, ranging from undistinguished yellow to attractive shades of yellow-orange to red-brown. Smooth gray bark in youth exfoliates with age to reveal orange-brown inner bark. Zelkova is valued as a commercial timber tree in Japan. Genus name may refer to the original Republic of Georgia name (Zelkova carpinifolia is native to the Caucasus). Specific epithet and additional common name of sawleaf zelkova both refer to the serrated leaf margins. No serious insect or disease problems. Highly resistant to Dutch elm disease. Phloem necrosis, wilts and cankers may occur. Insect visitors include leaf miner, beetles and scale. Spider mites can be a problem in hot, dry summers.

Christmas Palm Adonidia Tree Seedling Plant Live
USD 22.00 There are 2 to 3 trees to each pot so you will be getting 2 or 3 plants in each package that will ship. They are sometimes grown in doubles or triples. Hardy in USDA Zones 10- 12. They will reach up to 20 feet in height and 6 to 11 feet wide when full grown. (This is at optimal temperatures and planted in the ground. In a pot they will not reach this size!) They will grow and prosper in full sun but will tolerate some light shade but will also do great if grown indoors. They need some filtered medium light indoors to do well, but do not have to have direct sunlight. The measurements on the plants will vary a little but most will be about 8 inches tall and 10 inches wide. (Please note the measurements are from the top of the root ball to the top of the plant). The plants are left in the pots until agreement and payment to purchase has been received. Then they are pulled from the pot, wrapped in plastic with some of the dirt mixture to keep it somewhat moist and packaged to ship. They will ship USPS Priority mail that day. I do only ship live plants on Monday and Tuesday so they arrive to you before the weekend! Please be sure that after you receive the tracking information that you have someone to receive the package so it does not sit in the hot sun and bake in the box all day! We are licensed in the state of Georgia as a nursery and are inspected as such. Some of the plants you receive may still have some white residue on them from the last spray to control the fungus, pests, and to fertilize the plants. This residue is normal and will wear off in time. We guarantee that our plants will arrive alive to your destination if removed immediately upon arrival. We're sorry, but we do not ship these plants to California, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico due to restrictions by their Departments of Agriculture. Due to numerous postal problems, we now require all of our plants to ship with insurance so that price is also included!
