Building a Log Cabin in Alaska in Four Months: Using the trees from two acres of land
USD 12.99 This book should prove most helpful as a “how to” guide for a man working alone to build a strong, yet simple log cabin made to last. It can be a log cabin that a man can be proud to call his home or for a getaway home away from home on the weekend. I built the 13 by 41 foot cabin shell, including cutting down the trees and peeling off the bark, in three months while camping out in a tent. Cutting down the trees and pilling off the bark took more than half of the time in completing the shell of the cabin. It was hard work, but by using the trees on my property I saved money and it gave me a more satisfying feeling of accomplishment as I lived my dream. After about three months work the cabin was up and we moved from our tents into the cabin, however, the electrical wiring, well and plumbing, septic system, interior walls, chimney, and 8 by 28 foot add-on, which are covered in varying details (less on the wiring and plumbing) in this book, were worked on as I got the time and money. Overall, to complete the cabin, it took about four to five months time. The 757 square foot cabin was completed in about four months by working long hours, six days a week. The long camping experience was an ordeal for my wife, but my son and I enjoyed it. We thank God for His help and guidance through it all. The plans contained in this book are designed to allow a man working alone to build a cabin in a short time that will last a life time. I include an additional chapter about building a pergola type patio cover out of red cedar. 48 pictures are included in this book. Happy trails!

3 large California redwood tree starts - 21 inches high
USD 31.75 Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are one of the oldest plant families on Earth. Although they thrive in the temperate rain forests of the Pacific Northwest, they can adapt to higher elevations and warmer and dryer climates, as well as colder areas. The secret is lots of water and sunshine, especially at this early stage. The common name for these trees is California Redwood or Coastal Redwood. They can live for 2,000 years or more in ideal conditions. This species includes the tallest trees on Earth, reaching up to 375 feet in height and 26 feet in diameter. You are purchasing 3 large redwood tree plugs, two to three years old. These stand about 22 inches or so measured from the bottom of the plug, which is about 2.5 inches in diameter. They have an extensive root system already. We recommend that you pot these in 1-gallon pots on arrival. The first picture shows a typical plug. The second picture shows the plants in our greenhouse. The third picture shows what a sequoia grove looks like. You can regulate the speed of growth by varying the light -- the lower the light, the slower the growth. But do keep them moist, as redwoods like lots of water. We think these can be grown outdoors successfully from zones 5 through 9 if proper care is given. We recommend growing these as pot plants for up to a year, gradually increasing the size of the pot. Plant in the ground in the spring of 2011. Be sure to allow for room to grow when selecting a location, and be sure to provide plenty of water in dry conditions. Or you can grow these as container plants by pruning them back if they threaten to get too big. These trees were tissue cultured from large redwoods that showed superior growth, shape, adaptation to varying climatic regions, limb structure, height and diameter. A mature tree is said to produce nearly 260 pounds of oxygen a year.
