Succulent Plants

Succulent Plants
Succulent plants in my ball python's cage ?

I'm getting a ball python for a biology project and I have to create an "ecosystem" for it. Pretty much make the cage as close to its natural habitat (which is the savanna?) as possible.

I bought three really small succulent plants yesterday. They have NO spokes at all--they're NOT cacti. I know I should just use fake plants but there are no fake plants that seem like they would fit within the environment im trying to make. I just wanna know if they're toxic for the snake or if they could raise any other health problems.

And feel free to suggest any other plants I could use :)
here's a link to the picture of the plants.

succulent

Those plants look fine...just try to stay away from plants that secrete a wax like eucalyptus or Aloe Vera. I don't see those plants lasting long witha ball python. If a ball python chose to climb on them I do not think they could support its weight and could snap the stalk. Also, get rid of most of the Potting Soil because it has fertilizers that could harm the snake. You're going to have to find some natural vermiculite or commercial soil with no added fertilizers.

Philodendrens and Pothos are great plants that can withstand the "trampeling" a ball python can subject them to. They really aren't a savannah plant, but they work extremely well in almost all types of cage habitats. You might also try a ficas, they tend to do well with larger bodied snakes.

Patio Tomato 48 Plants - Excellent for Containers/Sweet
USD 29.99

TOMATO: Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and the seeds are high in fiber. The green parts are mildly poisonous, which is not surprising, as tomatoes are closely related to both nightshade and tobacco. The tomato was originally believed to be poisonous when introduced into Europe, and was used solely as an ornamental plant during the 16th and 17th centuries. The first traces of its use as a food date back to the first half of the 18th century. Tomatoes are now a tasty ingredient in many dishes, and are used fresh, canned, stewed or even sun-dried. Just for Containers -- Big Yields of Succulent Fruit! Bushy plants are covered with big 8-ounce tomatoes at the height of the season, making a striking sight in patio containers and entryways! The University of Florida developed this variety just for the home garden, with a compact habit ideal for containers, patio culture, or small-space gardening. It's a great combination of big fruit on small plants, and is as stunning as an ornamental as it is delicious! The big, bright red, smooth-skinned fruits weigh between 8 and 12 ounces each, measuring 3 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter. They are firm and crack-resistant, with good uniform coloring and terrific juicy-sweet taste. Shipping Options: Shipping begins March 1st, weather permitting. When paying enter the ship date in the "Gift Card" box or in the "Special Instruction" Box. Ice Plant - Congestum - 100 Seeds
USD 7.99

Ice Plant Delosperma (Congestum) - Succulent foliage of apple green carpets the ground in dry sunny sites, bearing tiny yellow aster-like flowers in mid-spring. This Ice Plant is native to higher altitudes of eastern South Africa, somewhere between an alpine and high desert habitat. Prefers dry, lean, sharply drained soils in full sun. Being an alpine species, it appreciates more regular moisture than other South African succulents. For about 4-6 weeks, numerous flowers open in the morning and close in the afternoon, with more blooms appearing the next morning. Right at home in rockery or scree gardens as a dense low ground cover to soften edges and flow down slopes. A prime candidate for rock gardens and containers, this alpine thrives in dry, gravelly soil. It can also be used as a ground cover on sunny banks or tucked into the pockets of rock walls.

Colorful Succulent Suncatcher Garden - 3" Clay Pot
USD 9.99

Cacti & Succulent Care Many people tend to think that cacti and succulents are too difficult to care for and decide against even buying them. As it turns out, many people are simply caring for them too much or too often. Cacti and succulents will do quite well under the same conditions which would be considered neglect with other plants. -Watering- The most common problem people have with cacti and succulent plants is overwatering. They are 'water storing' plants and will do better with less water than they will with more. Water Cacti and succulents thouroghly and allow them to dry out completely between watering. If you are not sure if the soil is completely dried out it is useful to stick your finger in the soil (1" or so if necessary) to see if the soil is dry. Many plants will be potted with a sand or grit topping, be sure to check the soil for moisture, not just the topping. If you are still not sure and think it may be too moist, don't water it! Overwatering can lead to disease and rot and will kill your cactus and succulent plants! -Light- Cacti and succulent plants love bright sun and will do quite well on a windowsill or on a porch. There are some species however, that will do better in the shade, or partly sunny places. These include some species of haworthias and aloes. If you think your plant is being dried out or damaged from the direct sun, move it to a less bright location. If you have a plant in a location where there is little or no sunlight and notice it is stretching, it is a good idea to move it into a brighter location. -Temperature- Cacti and succulent plants can survive a wide range of temperatures, but it is preferable that they are kept in a warm bright location for the best results, and the most beautiful color. The Succulent Suncatcher Garden is an assortment of 3-5 different Succulent Plants potted in a 3" Clay Pot and topped with decorative stone. A perfect gift.

Ice Plant - Stardust - 1000 Seeds
USD 12.99

Ice Plant (Delosperma Floribunda Stardust) - This groundcover really covers hot, dry ground quickly and beautifully. Hardy Iceplant is the solution to many a gardener's dilemma -- how to cover those hot, dry garden spots where the hose doesn't reach or water is scarce? Very adaptable to heat, humidity, and drought, this ground cover vigorously spreads its succulent foliage and bright two-tone blooms far and wide to beautify the garden floor. These blooms are about 2 inches wide, with masses of tightly-packed, matchstick-thin violet petals surrounding a large white center. They appear just above the olive-green foliage, which is thin and pointed, and they act as a magnet for butterflies. But the amazing thing is their bloomtime -- they begin in late spring in most climates and simply don't quit till frost, going right through the dog days of summer and into fall without dropping a petal! Just 6 inches high and spreading up to a foot wide, 'Stardust' is a great choice for containers as well as the garden. It will spill over the sides of flowerpots and baskets, trailing blooms in its wake. And in the garden, it makes a great carpet beneath bulbs, meanders around shrubs and perennials nicely, and generally fills in space wherever it's needed! Pamper 'Stardust' the first year, giving it fairly good soil and plenty of water and food, but then let it go. It is quite tolerant of drought, and actually prefers dry soil. Heat doesn't faze it, and it tolerates quite a bit of humidity if given good air circulation (not crowded among other plants that cut off the breezes). If you are trying to grow a section of garden that needs little water, Ice Plant 'Stardust' is an excellent choice.
