What was Canada's early ethnic currency?
If I had a time-travel machine (which I don't--yet--unless i find a way to time travel to 2516 and nab one) and I set the timer to go back to Siam circa the King and I movie, I could totally pay for my saffron silks and other violet sapphires in cinnamon. (Now you understand why I desperately need a time-travel machine. Have cinnamon sticks galore, will travel...)
If I went back to another time (not sure which or where, Google fails me here...) I could totally pay for my stuff with sheets of aluminum foil since the metal was Very Rare back when. (Load up a few dozen rolls in the trunk and let's raid the Rodeo Drive of the 1300's or something!)
So if I went to early (?) Canada, what is the currently cheap currency I'd need to load up my time-travel machine with?? Did they ever trade in most delicious maple syrup? Or..? Happy Monday, everyone!
Beaver pelts. For a very long time, this was the medium of exchange. One pelt was called MB, for Made Beaver, and other items were in reference to it. E.g., a rifle was 12 MB, and a blanket 4? MB (cant' remember the exact amount).
Native people never really had money. There were wampum belts, but, these were more like history's. They were very valuable, but, you could not really buy stuff with them. Natives were very astute traders though, and did so long before the white people showed up. They would trade things they could get in their areas for things that came from elsewhere. These trading "chains" could be thousands of miles long, going from hand to hand.

Geranium - Violet - 25 Seeds
USD 4.99 Pelargonium zonale F1 is commonly called Geranium. Geraniums are a wonderful annual that work well in window boxes, all sorts of containers, and as a bedding plant. They have many branches but are compact in their growth and neat in appearance. Geraniums have large bloom clusters, this variety has violet colored blooms, and beautiful foliage to make a perfect addition to wherever they are grown. Geraniums bloom all season and require very little maintenance to keep them performing their best. They can be wintered indoors with a little extra care. Start the seed indoors 8 - 10 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the seeds into the soil covering them with 1/8 inch of soil. Keep the seed moist until germination. With temperatures of 75F, germination is normally within 7 days. Transplant outdoors when frost danger has passed. Space the plants 8 - 12 inches apart. Grow in full sun and in moist, well-drained soil. Water the plants regularly. Use balanced liquid fertilizer monthly throughout the growing season. Deadhead spent blooms to keep blooming continuous.

Asarina - Violet - 100 Seeds
