This particular yellow variety, Asclepias tuberosa, is commonly called Hello Yellow, and it produces an abundance of flower clusters of golden-yellow. Monarch butterflies are especially fond of Butterfly Weed, but many different varieties of butterflies find its nectar to be irresistible! This plant also has a long bloom-season, and it makes a great cut flower as well. Grow this plant in full sun and in sharply-drained, gritty soils. Sow the seed indoors in early spring. Maintain a temperature of 60F. Press the seeds into the soil, but do not cover them. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination occurs. Germination normally takes place within 42 days.
