Chinese Maple Bonsai 10 Seeds - Acer truncatum
USD 2.99

MAPLE TREES: Maple trees are large, deciduous trees that grow throughout the world. In the United States, they are more common in the northern states. Many people know maple trees for their spectacular fall color. Chinese Maple - Acer truncatum Description:This quick-growing deciduous tree is like a small Norway maple but with more deeply lobed leaves. Young leaves are a purplish red, summer leaves are green, and fall leaves are a dark, purplish red. Basic Care: Grows best in part shade to full sun. Never allow root ball to dry out completely. Protect tree from direct hot summer sun and winter freezes. Feeding:Fertilize just before and during growing season until autumn about once every two weeks. Water-soluble fertilizers with trace elements are readily available and easy to use. It is beneficial to use a variety of the many brands available. Normally, dilute the fertilizer to half the strength called for. Repotting:Has a vigorous root system, so prune yearly or at least every other year. Prune older specimens every two to three years. Repot before leaves appear in early spring or after leaves fall in autumn. Do drastic root pruning at time of repotting. Eliminate the tap-roots lying directly beneath the base of trunk. Reduce top growth during growing season by reducing the new shoots after they reach five to six new leaves. Reduce to the first two leaves. Makes an excellent, unusual bonsai!

USD 3.99

Red Maple: A small to large tree often planted as an ornamental with notable variation in size and form depending on its site. It has a narrow or rounded compact crown, and due to prolific sprouting, this tree often grows in clumps of stems from one stump. It also occurs as a single boled tree. LocationThe red maple is a native American tree found throughout the eastern United States from the Atlantic ocean to the prairies, and from South Florida to Canada. It has the distinction of the greatest north to south distribution of all trees on the east coast. Although it is most commonly found on moist bottomlands or in swamps, it also occurs in drier soils. CultureLight: Full sun to partial shade. In nature the red maple is often a pioneer, occupying open sites, but it can survive under the shade of larger trees.Moisture: Tolerant of both extremely wet and extremely dry soils.Hardiness: USDA Zones 4-9. Crossing many hardiness zones, this is a very versatile tree for landscaping.Propagation: Rooted cuttings. Using local nursery stock and carefully following planting instructions, this is one of the easiest trees to grow. UsageThis tree is suitable for shade as an ornamental. Known as soft maple to the forest products trade, red maple lumber is used in the furniture industry. Smaller trees are also used to make high quality paper. FeaturesThis handsome tree displays red coloring during different seasons of the year. Pioneers once made ink and cinnamon-brown and black dyes from an extract of the bark. Red maple is prized as an ornamental shade tree because of its rapid growth, brightly colored flowers and fruit (winged samaras), and spectacular fall colors.
