Chilean Mitre Flower 10 Seeds - Mitraria coccinea
USD 3.99

Mitraria coccinea is a gorgeous, rare species from Chile with brilliant red flowers with the texture of velvet. Mitraria is an evergreen perennial in the Gesneriad family, making it a cousin of African Violets. This is the only species in the genus Mitraria, and it's found only in the cool rainforests of Chile. It is happiest in temperatures below 85 degrees with cool nights, and might not thrive in areas that are consistently above that. If you can grow Fuchsias or Clivia, you should be able to grow Mitraria. It may be grown indoors in a cool room. Mitraria is both a creeping and climbing plant. It can climb several feet up a fence or trellis, and it will creep along the ground for 4 to 6 feet, although it may be pruned to any size. It is perfect for a hanging planter, where its lush foliage and vibrant blooms can be admired up close. The plant flowers throughout most of the year, with the heaviest show from spring through fall. Since it comes from rain forests, it should be protected from strong afternoon sun. Tree-filtered sunlight or morning sun + bright shade suits it well. It's reportedly hardy down to 12-20 degrees F, but try to protect it from prolonged frosts. It is happiest above freezing. It prefers moist, well-draining soil that's high in organic matter and low in lime. Over about 40% humidity is recommended.

Rare Baby Orchid Plant - Chysis bractescens - Potted
USD 9.99

Robust growing species, in a genus from Mexico and Central America. Large pseudobulbous plants require a rich almost semi-terrestrial media, well drained, with lots of water and fertilizer when the new growths appear. Chysis bractescens is deciduous, and after the leaves fall, the plant should be dried out, with just sufficient water to prevent shriveling of the bulbs. A repot into fresh media when new leads appear will promote robust growth and flowers. The foliage is much like that of Lycaste, Phaius, and should be protected from excess sunlight. Plant is found growing on trees and rocks in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua at elevations of 800 to 1500 meters.

*GROWN ON OUR FARM HERE IN TENNESSEE* Although the fern can look like a tangle of antlers at first, on closer inspection one can see the impressive 'nest' frond which can be 1m across at maturity. This 'nest' frond is designed to collect falling leaves and insects. These give the fern a valuable source of potassium and calcium, nutrients required for the production of their large fronds. It is from this frond that the fern attaches itself to the host tree. It protectively wraps around the rhizome and short roots, clasping onto the furrows in the bark with root like structures. Staghorn ferns are epiphytic perennials or "air" plants. Staghorns are native to jungles in Africa, Madagascar, Australia, Tropical Asia and one species (Andinum) is from South America, Peru and Bolivia..!!!
