Blue/green needle like foliage, giving it a stiff upright growth habit, and can get 3 - 4 feet in height and a 2 - 3 foot spread. A real show in the fall with flowers that look like a purple cloud from far away, giving a spectacular fall color show. Grows in drought conditions as well as wet conditions. It is one of the top choices when choosing ornamental grasses for landscaping due to its beautiful purple blooms, which are billowing and delicate. Purple muhly grass is the most common type of this ornamental grass, and the purplish tinge is a wonderful addition to any landscape. Purple muhly grass prefers to be grown in full sun.
