Silphium - Cup Plant - 200 Seeds
USD 4.99
Silphium perfoliatum, or commonly known as Cup Plant, is a towering plant that is often found growing in tall grass prairies in the Midwestern United States. This perennial has a long tap root and many smaller rhizomes which help to spread the plants. When growing in the wild, Cup Plant can establish colonies due to its ability to spread. The large leaves are formed opposite of each other and are connected at their base to form a sort of "cup". Morning dew collects in the cups and birds and insects often use the source for drinking water. The showy blooms measure 3 - 4 inches across and attract bees and butterflies. It is recommended to give Cup Plant seed a cold treatment to aid in the germination process. Either plant the seed directly outdoors in the late fall or moisten the seed in a paper towel, seal the seed and moist paper towel in a plastic bag and place it in the refrigerator for 60 days before planting outdoors in the spring after danger of frost has passed. Press the seed into the soil and cover with ¼ inch of soil. With a temperature of 68F, germination is usually within 28 days. Grow Cup Plant in full sun and in loamy, moist soil. Space plants 15 - 18 inches apart. Approximately 2,000 seeds per ounce.

White Rabbit's Foot Fern 3" pot - Davallia - Easter Plant
USD 8.99
FERN: A fern is any one of a group of about 12,000 species of plants. Unlike mosses they have xylem and phloem (making them vascular plants). They have stems, leaves, and roots like other vascular plants. Ferns do not have either seeds or flowers (they reproduce via spores). These cool little ferns are clean and easy to grow. By clean we mean that they don't continually drop small leaves like other ferns do. When mature the fern grows soft "rabbits feet" around the exterior of the pot. The Davallia fejeensis, better known as the Rabbits Foot Fern, is one of the most unique and 'easy to grow' ferns available. The fronds grow out of a rabbit foot looking rhizome as you can see in the picture below. This fern does not need constant moisture like most fern do and will survive with dry soil for short periods of time. As the Rabbit Foot fern grows, so does the hairy rhizomes, totally engulfing the pot in a few years.Place your "Rabbit-foot Fern" in bright indirect light or filtered light. Avoid areas of high heat as this will burn the delicate fronds. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. It can be allowed to dry, occassionaly Feed bi- monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer such as Peter's Plant Food. When mature your plant will develop brown circles under the leaves... these are not bugs, they are spores. Spores are basically the same as seeds to other plants. Propagate by dividing the rhizomes

Blue Umbrella Lily of the Nile Plant - Agapanthus - Potted
USD 4.99
Blue Umbrella Lily of the Nile - Agapanthus x hybrida These beautiful and hardy plants are native to southern Africa. It becomes a very strong perennial for Zones 6-9. These grass-like clumps will usually grow between one and three feet. Their leaves are narrow and they are popular for their green foliage and long summer blooms. The leaves grow from the fleshy rhizome roots. They are ideal for a background drop in flowerbeds and come in varying degrees of blue, purple, and white. Likewise, the flowers may be in clumps from one to 100. The plant requires full sun if not at least half a day. They can thrive in conditions of neglect and on dry slopes and on the coast. They will tolerate most conditions of soil as long as they get water in the spring and in the summer. It is an excellent plant to naturalize, and can also be used as a container plant. Propagation is usually done by division, however, with patience, seed can be sown in the fall and in the spring. In cooler regions overwinter the agapanthus as a house plant in a sunny, yet cool window.

Curiously, 'Black Rabbits Foot' is a brighter shade of green than "White Rabbits Foot'. Both are excellent terrarium or houseplant specimens that grow well under low light, high humidity conditions. To me, the foliage resembles carrot tops.

Staghorn Fern 4" Hanging Basket - EXOTIC - Platycerium
USD 5.99
Platycerium biforcatum - (Common Staghorn Fern). The staghorn fern is an epiphyte that lives in the tropical forests of southeast Asia and Australia. This plant has a short rhizome from which both sterile and fertile fronds sprout. The sterile fronds are rounded and form a sort of involucre which encases the branch on which the plant is attached. From these sprout the fronds which carry the reproductive apparatus, recognizable by a sort of rusty down situated in the ventral part of the plant. The fronds are long, wide, and laciniated at the top. Staghorn Fern is one of the more unusual house plants. It grows without its roots in soil and produces 2 types of fronds. One type is the branched frond that gives the plant its name. The other round, flat frond forms a collar around the branched fronds. The round frond may be 3 to 4 inches across on young plants but 3 to 4 feet across on older plants. Ideal temperatures are between 60 degrees and 80 degrees. It prefers bright, but indirect light. The plant you will receive is growing in a 4" Hanging Basket.

Belamcanda Hello Yellow Plant
USD 9.95
Paint your garden in bright, sunny color with Belamcanda Hello Yellow. The yellow, star-shaped blooms, which adorn the compact clump of green, sword-shaped, iris-like foliage, arise for weeks in late summer. Then in fall, attractive tan, pear-shaped seed pods appear, extending the season of beauty. The pods burst open, to reveal clusters of black seeds resembling blackberries, giving it its common name of blackberry lily. Persisting through winter, the pods make wonderful additions to fresh or dried flower arrangements. This easy-to-grow dwarf Belamcanda prefers average, moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Poorly drained soil, particularly in winter, can be fatal. Belamcanda slowly expands by creeping rhizomes. It may even self-seed in optimum growing conditions. Belamcanda typically grows to 2-3', but this smaller variety produces foliage to only 10" tall with flower spikes to 18-20" tall. With no serious insect or disease problems, Hello Yellow is truly a great plant for the border or a knockout in a mass planting!
