Because of their specific soil requirement, avoid planting them in the ground. SunlightGrow these carnivorous plants in full sun, with a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight for vigorous growth. WaterKeep the pot in standing water to keep the soil wet at all times. Use mineral-free water for best results. If growing your carnivorous plants in a pond, keep the water level halfway on the pot. Avoid drowning the crown of the plant. Requires nutrient-free soil that provides good drainage. A mixture of 50% peat moss and 50% perlite is sufficient. Never use potting soil. Potting soil will kill your carnivorous plants. Repot yearly to refreshen the soil and to aerate the roots. Do this in February through March, right before they come out of dormancy. USD 3.99 Sarracenia flava rugelli, the Rugelli pitcher plant, is a carnivorous plant in the family Sarraceniaceae. Like all the Sarraceniaceae, it is native to the New World. Its range extends from southern Alabama, through Florida and Georgia, to the coastal plains of southern Virginia and South Carolina.Like other members of the genus Sarracenia, the yellow pitcher plant traps insects using a rolled leaf, which in this species is a vibrant yellow in colour, and up to a metre in height (although 50 cm is more typical). The uppermost part of the leaf is flared into a lid (the operculum), which prevents excess rain from entering the pitcher and diluting the digestive secretions within. The upper regions of the pitcher are covered in short, stiff, downwards-pointing hairs, which serve to guide insects alighting on the upper portions of the leaf towards the opening of the pitcher tube. The upper regions are also brightly patterned with flower-like anthocyanin markings, particularly in the varieties S. flava var. rugelii and S. flava var. ornata: these markings also serve to attract insect prey. The opening of the pitcher tube is retroflexed into a 'nectar roll' or peristome, whose surface is studded with nectar-secreting glands. HOODED PITCHERPLANT Sarracenia minor carnivorous 10 seeds
USD 4.00 Sarracenia minor is known as the hooded pitcher plant. Each pitcher leaf end in a re-curved hood, which serves very effectively as a way to trap insects. The bright reddish to purplish colors are an attractive signal. The inside of the hood has nectar glands in it, so the leaf is offering some food for the insect. Notice the pattern of white translucent areas in the leaf..... The translucent areas in the hood fool an insect, which responds to the light these "windows" (seen enlarged here) transmit. The insect's response is to fly toward the windowed wall, because it resembles sky by being bright.
