Rocky Mountain Penstemon - 1 LB
USD 39.99
Penstemon strictus is a lovely perennial wildflower that is a great addition to the garden or to a naturalized landscape setting. Rocky Mountain Penstemon is native to the United States, and it features intensely colored blooms that are somewhat like a snapdragon. The bloom color is deep violet blue and they form on sturdy spikes that are great for cutting and creating lovely indoor arrangements. Penstemon is also a very good choice for a wild life garden as it is rich in nectar. It is recommended to sow Rocky Mountain Penstemon directly outdoors. The seed can be planted in late fall in a prepared seedbed. Press the seed into the soil and cover with 1/16 inch of soil. The cold weather of winter helps to break the dormancy of the seed, and in the spring when temperature warms, germination will begin with a temperature range of 55 - 60F. Germination normally occurs within 30 days. Space the plants 15 - 18 inches apart. Grow in full sun and in well-drained soil.

Husker Red Penstemon 40 Seeds - Perennial
USD 4.99
Commonly called Beardtongue, Penstemon is a large native genus found over large areas of the US and Canada, especially in drier locations. It contains a wealth of flower colors and sizes, plant heights, and growth habits. 'Husker Red' is a white-flowered, red-foliaged form of P. digitalis that was selected and introduced in 1983 by Dr. Dale Lindgren, University of Nebraska. It is a versatile garden perennial, valuable as a specimen, or as a cut flower. When plants are well established, height averages about 30 inches, with as many as 50 white flowers on each of 20 or more open, airy, flower stalks during July and August. Perhaps 'Husker Red most valuable attribute is the rich, bronze-red foliage which provides striking contrast with the masses of white flowers. 'Husker Red' prefers well-drained soils that are slightly acidic. Soils that are well drained during the winter help to extend its life. Plants thrive in full sun to light shade. Hardy in zones 5-9 Proper name: Penstemon digitalis 'Husker Red'

Penstemon Rocky Mountain Blue
USD 1.79
Perennial to USDA zones 3-4. Blooms for several weeks in early summer. Full sun or part shade. 2' to 3' tall. 18 wide. Elegant bluish purple spikes with 1" tubular flowers lends a touch of formality to any planting. A larger penstemon with more visual impact, 'Rocky Mountain Blue' is beautiful in a range of settings from the formal borders to casual flowerbeds and roadside wildflower plantings. Excellent plant for year round interest. Forms satiny brown teardrop shaped seed heads if faded flower stalks are left standing. In winter, evergreen basal rosettes turn from green to reddish purple. Attracts hummingbirds and hawkmoths and makes a nice cut flower. A native of the Western United States, it is extremely drought tolerant, but can also handle considerable moisture. Requires a little more water in sunny areas than in shady places. Cut back on water and fertilizer if stalks become floppy. Cut flower stalks back to ground in spring. May reseed. Penstemon is also known as Beards Tongue due to its bristly hairs on the lower lip which extend into the throat.
