Austrian Winter Peas- 25# of Bulk Seed- Cover Crop, Plow Down
USD 49.99

Fabaceae from The Dirty Gardener Field peas are native to Europe, northern Africa and western Asia. The Austrian winter pea (Pisum sativum spp arvense) is a fall-seeded pea introduced from Austria to the Pacific Northwest in the 1930s. Newer winter hardy varieties have survived in south west Alberta although limited testing has been done in other prairie regions. They are planted in early fall, over winter as a small plantlet and resume growth in early spring. Harvest timing is mid to late June as forage or green manure and mid-July as grain. Austrian winter pea can also be planted in spring but is late maturing compared to other spring pea types. Seeds are small (110-130 grams per 1000 seeds) and have a speckled or marbled appearance on an olive green background colour. Tannins impart the dark seed colour, limiting Austrian winter pea use to livestock forage, green manure or birdseed mixtures.

Wando" Shelling Pea Seeds"
USD 1.79

This heirloom shelling pea keeps its cool, but can also take the heat! Wando is an excellent choice for warm climates or for late planting in any climate. It keeps producing better than other peas as days get warmer. Given a little shade and sufficient water, you may still be harvesting peas in July and August! Sow this variety just like you would any other pea. They are cold tolerant for early planting just like other pea varieties, but they are also more heat tolerant. Introduced in 1943, Wando Peas are a cross between Laxton's Progress (an English heirloom pea) and Perfection (a New England heirloom). The 18\-30" plants have numerous 3" long pods with 7-8 medium sized peas in each. They are excellent for eating raw, steaming, or freezing

USD 1.79

Cascadia is the best snap pea since Sugar Ann! Though they are not heirlooms like many of the shelling peas (they came on the scene in the 1970's), every pea lover should reserve garden space for these 3 deep green, thick, juicy pods. Snap peas are very flavorful, and the entire sweet pod is consumed. Serve them raw with dip, steam them, or stir-fry them. Of course, you may eat many of these crunchy snacks right in the garden! The short, 30" vines are self-supporting. Cascadia snap peas resist mildew and pea enation virus. This packet plants: One 15-foot row. When to plant outside: RECOMMENDED. Sow in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. Soil temperatures must be above 40 degrees. A second crop may be planted

It is native to southern Europe around the Mediterranean, and it grows in the wild. It reaches 20 inches in height and 24 inches in width, and it has crimson colored flowers that are formed in pairs. In the Pink" Sweet Pea Seeds"
USD 1.99

Annual. Blooms in spring. 5' - 6' tall. Full sun. 'In the Pink' is a designer blend of warm shades of pink and highlights of salmon, almond, cerise (cherry), and mauve. These Sweet Peas have 1 - 2" flowers that are lightly fragrant. In cold winter climates, plant as soon as you can work the soil in spring. In warm winter climates, sow in August or early September for mid-winter bloom. 'In the Pink' generally blooms for 3-5 weeks. For all Sweet Peas, the bloom period depends on the weather. As temperatures warm up, flower production starts to slow down. Removing all spent stalks and blooms immediately after they are done blooming will prolong the bloom period. Before planting, prepare your sight well. Choose a sunny, cool spot away from wind
