Poppy - Meconopsis Blue - 400 Seeds
USD 8.99

Meconopsis betonicifolia, known as Himalayan Poppy, is a delight for climates with cooler summers. As the name suggests, this poppy is native to the Himalayan region of Asia, and these poppies prefer a shady, cool place to grow. This variety is blue, and the color can be changed slightly by adjusting the pH of the soil it is growing in. Even though they prefer cold climates, the plants need well-drained soils especially in the winter. The seed needs to have a cold treatment before planting. Using a damp paper towel, place the seed on the towel and place it in a plastic container with a sealable lid. Keep the seed container in the refrigerator for 4 weeks. Start the seed indoors. They need light to germinate but keep out of direct sunlight. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover. Keep the seed moist until germination. At a temperature of 60 - 65F, germination usually occurs within 28 days. Space the plants 18 inches apart. Grow in partial shade and in most, acidic soil. Blue Poppy is usually resistant to deer.
