Globe Heirloom

Globe Heirloom
How can you get mildew out of felt, Precious heirloom at stake?!?

My aunt was putting up her Christmas decorations and when she was going threw her boxes she notice one was a little off. She opened it to find that a precious family heirloom, a snow globe, busted inside the box sometime last year when the decorations were being put away. Not only was her snow globe destroyed but her stockings that were hand -made by my great grandmother have been ruined by mildew. We have tried washing them and so far no luck. If ANYONE has any advice on what to do it would help tremendously! I would really like to figure out what to do. This stocking means everything to my aunt and since she has found it in this condition she is completely heartbroken! PLEASE HELP!
The stocking is all green.... There's dark spots all over it and it smells atrocious!

First off, DO NOT use chlorine bleach on wool! Try an oxygen bleach or hydrogen peroxide. If that removes the color along with the mildew use Rit color remover on the entire stocking and then re-dye it a deeper shade of green. The "restored " condition would be better than losing it completely. My sympathy to your Aunt.
Another solution is ask your Aunt if the design would suffer too much if it had some strategically placed tiny snowflakes embroidered on it.
