I'm in the grocery store is what I'm buying Ginger root growth from?

I will plant the ginger ginger I accepted it, I want to have roots before buying. What steps do I need This will take. I water the previous unsuccessful attempts to Ginger Root (still have to leave I never saw one like potatoes), it is corrupt. Any ideas? Anyone doing this?
