Italian Edible Fig Tree 2 Years Old 2'+ (Ficus Carica)
USD 29.97
Fig is hardy in zones 8-10 but with winter protection it can be grown as far north as zone 5. When fully dormant, fig trees can tolerate temperatures as low as 10 to 15ºF. Even if frozen, figs often will resprout from the roots and produce a crop the following summer. Figs usually begin bearing fruit within two years. If you live in the zones above, you can plant this in the ground upon arrival. If you live in colder zones, you can pot these figs and winter them in your garage, basement or other areas that do not go below zero degrees F. Figs grow nicely and will bear fruit when grown in containers where they can be artfully pruned to create a living sculpture to decorate your deck or patio. This is convenient for two reasons: cold climate growers can move their figs indoors in winter and the plants can be removed from the patio when the fruit begins to (over)ripen. The plant you purchase is dormant and carefully packaged. . The picture used in this add is used for descriptive purposes only and the plant and the pot you receive may differ from the picture. It is very important that you open your package immediately . If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. USD 13.57
Fruit trees, shrubs, and vines are true two-for-one plants. Many varieties are strikingly beautiful — well suited to doing double duty as delicious sources of sweet, organic fruit and as ornamental additions to the home landscape. Backyard fruit plants also tie in perfectly with the growing locavore movement. It's difficult to find food that's more local than one's own backyard! "Luscious landscaping," as author Lee Reich calls it, takes fruit-bearing plants off the commercial farm and replants the prettiest and tastiest specimens in suburban and rural yards. Spring blossoms, summer and fall fruit, and the year-round presence of the plants themselves bring a special magic to the home landscape. Pillowy pink blossoms on peach branches or the bright orange fruit of persimmon trees perk up their surroundings with color and drama. Beautiful plants, yes, but these landscaping additions also provide sweet, nutritious fruit. Homegrown, organic varieties bear almost no resemblance to commercially produced fruits, which are bred and selected to withstand shipping and refrigerated storage conditions. It's hard to believe that Alpine strawberries and those grown in California and shipped across the country are even related! Fruitscaping is a complete, no-nonsense guide to growing temperate-zone fruit, with information on everything from planting and pruning to pest control and harvesting. Readers will find all the basics of landscaping with fruit — site analysis, climate assessment, understanding soil and sun, plant selection, and optimizing growing conditions. PASSIFLORA EDULIS sp. FLAVICARPA BULK 100 seeds
USD 21.00
The Yellow Passion Fruit is one of several species of the genus -all woody, perennial vines native to the tropical Americas- that produce edible fruits. It is a fast-growing vine and is also suitable for ornamental screening purposes. The alternate curly leaves are deeply 3-lobed, and the vines climb readily by means of long tendrils in each leaf axil. The yellow passion fruit is an excellent home fruit and offers great possibilities for commercialization in the American Tropics. Plants of the yellow passion fruit grow well in a wide range of soils, but grow best on fertile well-drained types. The vines, which should be trained on a wire trellis or fence, produce flowers the second year after planting and set fruit continuously from June to November. The vines produce for many years, require little attention other than occasional pruning and fertilizing, and are not affected by any serious diseases or insect pests. The white flowers of the yellow passion fruit are 2 to 3 inches in diameter and are characterized by long, white, or white and purple, filament-like rays. The fruits are globose to ellipsoid, attain a diameter of about 2 inches, and turn from green to yellow at maturity. The interior of the brittle-shelled fruit is filled with many small seeds surrounded by a yellowish, gelatinous, aromatic pulp and juice, which is used for flavoring sherbets and for making jams and jellies. The pulp also is eaten directly from the shell with a spoon after a little sugar has been added. The most popular use is in a refreshing drink prepared by blending the fruit pulp with ice, water, sugar, and a pinch of bicarbonate of soda. The juice is an excellent source of vitamin C.
