Graceful Dwarf Cattail 50 Seeds-Typha laxmannii-Aquatic
USD 2.99
* Graceful cattail is native to marshes and wetlands in Europe and Asia. It is a marginal aquatic perennial that spreads by creeping rhizomes to form dense colonies in shallow water. Features narrow, upright, sword-like, linear, mostly basal, green leaves up to 5 feet tall and a stiff, unbranched central flower stalk that is typically equal to or slightly less than the height of the leaves. Yellowish male (staminate) flowers are located at the top of the inflorescence and greenish female (pistillate) flowers are located underneath. In this species, the staminate and pistillate flowers are separated by a gap of up to 2 inches of stalk. Flowers bloom in summer. After bloom, the male flowers rapidly disperse, leaving a naked stalk tip. The pollinated female flowers turn brown as the seeds mature, forming the familiar cylindrical, sausage-like, cattail fruiting spike up to 4 inches long. Foliage turns yellow-brown in autumn. Fruiting spikes usually persist to early winter before disintegrating. Large stands of cattails serve as important nesting areas and cover for wildlife. Can be planted in saturated soil up to 18 inches deep. Height: 3-5 feet Zones: 5-9 Sun or Shade Correct name: Typha laxmannii

Dwarf Serbian Spruce 2 - Year High Graft
USD 21.95
Picea omorika 'Nana' Standard (Dwarf Serbian Spruce) * Full Sun - Part shade * Zones 4-7 * 6' tall * 5' wide A Compact Dwarf Serbian Spruce on a Standard, grows 3-6 inches per year ! One 16-24 inch tall high grafted, Standard Dwarf Serbian spruce. The spread is about 6 inches right now. Picea omorika 'Nana' Standard is the Dwarf Serbian Spruce that has those soft green needles on the top-side and the bottom side and retains that bluish color. The rounded form is very easy to maintain, a spread of 5.0?-6.0?, and around 5.0? for the height. There are now a lot of these type of evergreen standards out there to use but this one has a 2 tone color effect. There is a nice subtle change from green to blue in the needles. Evergreens on standards like this make an incredibly strong statement in the immediate area they are placed. Becoming a focal point, or at least an exclamation point, needing a supporting cast to show off this plants interesting characteristics. A mass of low perennials, or ground cover is a safe bet, not a group of 4 or 5 deciduous shrubs with the same rounded shape competing for your attention. The other way to use these dwarf globes is as a pair, flanking a sidewalk or guarding the ends of a bed. I guess you would say this is the standard, typical, ho-hum way to be placed in the landscape. it's true, but it works. Remember this design tip with these types of shrubs . . . think focal point, then place this type of evergreen where you want someone to look, a place of interest, and appreciate what's happening in that space. Then surround these focals with subordinates to support the uniqueness of the evergreen on a standard.
