Royal Poinciana Flame Tree Delonix regia Plant Tropical Seedling
USD 17.00 They are hardy in USDA Zones 10- 11. These will get up to 50 feet tall and 30 feet wide when fully grown in these tropical conditions- in other locations, they will never reach that size. Can be grown in full sun or partial shade. They can also be kept in a container/ pot and will maintain a smaller size so you could bring them indoors (or garage) during the coldest weather. They will flower a brilliant red bloom in spring and summer. These plants will measure at least 4 inches tall and 7 inches wide. (All measurements on our plants are done from the top of the root ball to the top of the plant) We are licensed in the state of Georgia as a nursery and are inspected as such. We do not ship to California, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico due to restrictions by their Department of Agriculture. DescriptionRoyal poinciana (so named because it used to be in the genus, Poinciana) is a flamboyant tree in flower - some say the world's most colorful tree. For several weeks in spring and summer it is covered with exuberant clusters of flame-red flowers, 4-5" across. Even up close the individual flowers are striking: they have four spoon shaped spreading scarlet or orange-red petals about 3" long, and one upright slightly larger petal (the standard) which is marked with yellow and white. Royal poinciana gets 30-40' tall, but its elegant wide-spreading umbrella-like canopy can be wider than its height. Royal poinciana is deciduous in climates that have a marked dry season, but in Florida and other areas where the winter is not that much dryer than the summer, it is a semi-evergreen tree. Even the leaves are elegant: they are lacy and fernlike, twice-pinnate, and 12-20" long with 20-40 pairs of primary leaflets (pinnae), each divided into 10-20 pairs of secondary leaflets (pinules). The dark brown pods are flat and woody, up to 24" long and 2" wide. A naturally occurring variety (var. flavida) has golden-yellow flowers. LocationRoyal poinciana is native to Madagascar.
