Cuttings Easy
Photinia, is it easy to take starts and how do I do it ?
I just bought a One Gallon photinia and I live in zone 7 OR and they grow photinia around here as the mainstay in huge bushes. I want to know how to take cuttings and is it fairly easy ?
Photinia or red-tip is easy to propagate from stem cuttings. This shrub which is very tolerant of urban conditions roots best when semi-hardwood or hardwood cuttings are used,
Semi-hardwood cuttings are those taken from partially mature wood of This Year's growth. The best cuttings are taken just after a growth flush, generally in the summer or early fall. The wood should be somewhat firm and the leaves fully mature.
Hardwood cuttings are those taken from dormant, mature stems in late fall, winter, or early spring. The wood should be very firm and not bend easily.
