Dwarf Bamboo (Pleioblastus humilis)
USD 10.00

Dwarf Bamboo (Pleioblastus humilis) Now there's a general statement. I have lost track of where I purchased this 10 years ago. So I have no information about it. What I can tell you is it looks fabulous in a low bowl with Carex 'Island Brocade' and 'Golden Spike Moss' (Selaginella kraussiana 'Aurea') plus a few pebbles, 10-12" tall. Nice medium broad medium green foliage. I would guess hardy Zone 6-9. Moist, well drained, morning light. Lovely for miniature gardens or vigorous enough for a ground cover. Updated info it is (Pleioblastus humilis) and hardy to -15 Zone 5-9.

20 Frosted Curls Carex comans Sedge Seeds New Zealand Hair
USD 2.50

Carex comans Frosted Curls New Zealand Hair Sedge Seeds Type: Perennial Mature Height: 12 inches Soil Type: Widely adaptable Mature Spread: 12 inches Mature Form: Clumps - weeping Foliage Color: Pale Green Growth Rate: Moderate Fall Color: Silvery Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade in warmer climates Moisture Requirements: Keep Moist Zones: 6 - 9 Carex comans Frosted Curls or New Zealand Hair Sedge. Zones 6 - 10 grows 12"-18". A tufted, fine-textured, evergreen sedge with 1/16"-wide, hairlike, cylindrical leaves that form dense tufts. The slightest breeze causes the irridescent, light-green foliage to shimmer and glow. When allowed to spill over rocky slopes or walls, this variety creates the illusion of falling water. Does best in moist, fast-draining soil. Carex Comans (Frosted Curls) is a dwarf sedge that only grows to approximately 12" tall. It has silvery, dense green clumps, densely tufted for pot, bed, groundcover or border ornamental grass plantings. Carex Comans, a native ornamental grass of New Zealand, has slender arching, grassy leaves that grows in a wide clump that resembles a fountain. They are silvery-green and seem to shimmer when blown by a breeze or, if planted in pots, resembles falling water with the leaves draped over the pot. Though it resembles an ornamental grass, it comes from a different family all together, and like many of its fellow sedges, is more versatile than ornamental grasses, being tolerant of both full sun and partial sun and moist to almost-wet soils, and not attractive to deer. Once established, will tolerate dry soil. The tiny flowers appear in clusters atop thin stems in mid-summer. The narrow leaves give this plant its common name, hair sedge. They are evergreen in warm climates, perennial in colder climates, where they wither and brown in autumn but nonetheless lend color to the winter garden. Remove the brown leaves in late winter to make way for the new leaves in spring.
