YUCCA GLAUCA Soapweed Yucca beargrass BULK 1000 seeds
USD 40.00

Also called "soapweed", "beargrass", and "Spanish bayonet", yucca is mostly found south and west of the Missouri River in North Dakota. There are a few records from counties bordering the east side of the River. Elsewhere, the plant grows from southeastern Alberta south to Missouri, Texas, and New Mexico at elevations up to 8,500 ft. Yucca is perennial from a fibrous horizontal or upright stem bearing one or more erect crowns. Sharp-tipped leaves up to two feet long are rounded on the back and have inrolled margins bearing white filaments. The leaves contain tough fibers. Ten to fifteen flowers form along a spike about three feet long. Flowers are greenish-white and up to 2 1/2 inches long. At maturity, the large capsules enclose long black seeds. Look for yucca in June or July on dry prairie slopes or in badlands. Slightly greater amounts of yucca will be found where grazing pressure is light or moderate, because cattle like the fleshy flowers and young seedpods. Amerindians of the plains used yucca roots for making soap and hair tonic central spikes, flowers, and seed pods were eaten, and the spiny leaf tips, often with the fibers still attached, served as ready-made needles and threads! Hardiness: Zones 4-10

EUROPEAN FANPALM CHAMAEROPS HUMILIS hardy BULK 100 seeds
USD 21.00

The attractive little European fan palm (Mediterranean Fanpalm) has become very popular in recent years, mostly due to its cold hardiness. Not only can it resist temperatures below 20°F but it is fairly fast growing and drought resistant too! The European fan palm forms clumps than can grow up to 15 ft in height. The triangular, fan shaped leaves grow to about 20-24 in long by 24 in wide. They are deeply divided into multiple segments that are themselves split at the tip and they are supported on 3-4 ft stems. This is an extremely variable plant both in color (the leaves range from blue green to grey green to yellow green) and in shape. Some plants form suckers more freely than others to become very shrubby plants that may reach 15 ft in width. Other individuals can be seen that are almost dwarf growing just 5 ft tall by 4 ft wide. These days it is popular to remove all but a few of the suckers and to prune the leaves to form a cluster of clear trunked "mini" palms Hardy zone 7-11
