1 oz (70,000+) HIGHBUSH Blueberry Plant Seeds BULK SEEDS ornamental edible ~ 6 VARIETIES
USD 168.00

Northern Highbush This is a mixed lot of Northern Highbush blueberries including the following varieties: BLUECROP, GULF COAST, MISTY, BLUERAY, BLUEJAY, AND DUKE. Blueberry plants are a magnificent ornamental edible! Bearing white flowers in spring, glossy leaves in summer, spectacular foliage in fall, and bright red stems in winter. Blueberries and Aging In a USDA Human Nutrition Research Center laboratory, neuroscientists discovered that feeding blueberries to laboratory rats slowed age-related loss in their mental capacity, a finding that has important implications for humans. In one study, Jim Joseph, director of the neuroscience laboratory in the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center (HNRC), fed blueberry extractions-the equivalent of a human eating one cup of blueberries a day-to mice and then ran them through a series of motor skills tests. He found that the blueberry-fed mice performed better than their control group counterparts in motor behavioral learning and memory, and he noticed an increase in exploratory behavior. When he examined their brains, he found a marked decrease in oxidative stress in two regions of the brain and better retention of signal-transmitting neurons compared with the control mice. Blueberries are easy in full sun and most acidic soils; pH of mid to high 4's is ideal. Does best in zones 3-9 and likes full sun. Can be started indoors in winter.

Blueberry Seeds Pre-Stratified 75 +
USD 1.99

Vaccinium corymbosum is better known as highbush blueberry and belongs to the Ericaceae family. It is native to the eastern United States. This deciduous tree is a medium to large multi-stemmed shrub. This is an upright shrub, typically with several main stems, and an open crown reaching up to 10 feet tall. The simple leaves are alternate and elliptical, about 1 to 2 1/2 inches long with entire or serrated margins. They are dark green above, green or sometimes pubescent and paler below. The fall colors are excellent with a mix of red, orange, purple, and yellow. Simply beautiful! New shoots are quite attractive on close inspection. The young slender stems have wart-like dots, and they grow in zigzag. They are glabrous with a yellow-green to reddish color in the winter but the older stems are gray and slightly fissured. The bark is gray-brown to reddish brown and very shreddy. The small (3/8 inch long) pointed flowers are bell-shaped, in clusters (corymbs), and are white to pale pink. They are produced in early spring when the leaves emerged. The large, round, flower buds are globular and imbricate, while the red and pointed vegetative buds are relatively smaller. The flowers bloom from May to June. The blooms are typically numerous and somewhat showy. The highbush blueberry fruits are small (1/3 inch), dark blue and covered with a white film. The berry ripens in mid to late summer. The fruits are sweet and eaten readily by wildlife and humans. Hardiness zones: 3-9 (-37°C/-35°F, -5°C/25°F) in winter. For this tree the ideal soil is moist, high in organic matter and well-drained. It prefers an acidic soil (4.5 to 5.5). The blueberry tree likes to have mulch around the roots and full sun to partial shade. More sun translates into more into more blooms, more fruit and enhanced fall foliage color. They are often found growing in or near swampy areas, woods, and thickets. They will tolerate temperature

Blueberry Hill Rose Seeds Packet
USD 4.95

Blueberry Hill Rose seed pack with a free gift in every order! Ten (10) seeds per pack Growing roses from seed is certainly not the fastest method of propagating roses, but it really is the most rewarding. Rose seeds will not be exact. They can be, but do not expect it. They will usually be lighter or darker to parent plant. Some rose hybridizers chill their rose seeds in the refrigerator for about six to ten weeks before planting, to encourage the seeds to germinate better. This is called stratification. Place the seeds about one-half inch deep in a very light mixture of 50% sterile potting soil and 50% vermiculite. Roses are not difficult to grow from seed, if you do it right. If you just put a lot of seeds in a pot of soil, water it, and wait, you'll likely be disappointed. But by using the procedure explained here, you should be able to grow them. First, be aware that each rose seedling is a new, never-before-seen variety. If you plant seeds of 'Don Juan', you will get climbers, large bushes, small bushes, in a variety of colors, with a variety of scents, etc. What you can be completely sure of, though, is that you will not grow another plant of 'Don Juan'. That's true of any variety from which you collect the seed; they don't "come true" to the original type. The probability of your coming up with the next AARS winner is not very good. Kind of like winning at Lotto. However, among the many poor quality seedlings, you will likely produce some plants that you find interesting, and which may be well worth growing. Rose seeds are produced inside the "hips," the fruit of the rose. If you zealously dead-head your roses, you'll not get any hips, since they are produced from the old flowers. Some varieties seldom, if ever, produce hips; others are good producers.
