USD 12.00 Phlox 'Robert Poore' (Phlox paniculata) Garden phlox (P. paniculata), native to the eastern half of the U.S., likes rich, well-drained soil and full to partial sunlight. There are some wonderful varieties to choose from. A great companion plant for Beebalm. Robert Poore This 3-4 ft tall garden phlox , with its fragrant, richly colored red-purple flowers blooms in mid-summer. Is is named after Mississippi landscape architect Robert Poore. This is the phlox most resistance to powdery mildew, the nemesis of many other paniculata cultivars. This phlox has been by far the best bloomer we ever had. It blooms from June through late October here in the South, no matter if it gets cut back or left alone. Its sweet perfume lures a variety of butterflies, such as swallowtails, Painted Ladies, Great Spangled Fritillaries, sulphurs and skippers. Deadhead to prevent self-seeding, as volunteers will revert to less attractive colors. Divide the clump every few years and reset the young shoots from the clump's edge into fresh, amended soil. Zone 4-9.

It's now thriving from Texas to New York State. Some varieties reaching as high as 5', summer phlox puts on a colorful show for several weeks from mid- to late summer.
